Mid Century Modern Art

Sculptural silhouettes and a clean aesthetic define Mid-Century Modern art. While all art and design made in the mid-twentieth century are considered mid-century, it's the addition of influences such as minimalist, modernist, abstract, and atomic that add the modern aspect. The Mid-Century Modern Art movement includes pieces by Pablo Picasso, such as 'L'acrobate (The Acrobat)' as well as Abstract artist Jackson Pollock's iconic splatter paintings and Abstract Expressionist Mark Rothko's color field paintings. Another aspect to the Mid-Century Modern Art movement is the Atomic Age, approximately 1940 to 1963, when nuclear war concerns were at an all-time high. Art and design were heavily influenced by themes of atomic science and the Space Age. These elements include atom-shaped designs, some composed of futuristic geometrics, atomic starbursts, and elongated diamond, ovals, and abstract shapes.
