Hope Clarified

The following is a recap of the Sunday AM message from 8.10.2014.

Context: The Thessalonians were not sure what happens to those who die before Christ returns. Paul gives an assurance that they will not miss out on the glory that will come when Christ returns!

Theme: Christ’s coming clarifies hope
“Be we do not want you to be uninformed brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.”
1. Hope rests on Christ’s finished work
“For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again.”
2. Hope accepts that absence from the body is presence with the Lord
“Through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.”
3. Hope springs from divine revelation
“For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord.”
4. Hope triumphs in miracles
“For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trupet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.”
5. Hope anticipates meeting the Lord
will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.”
6. Hope provides encouragement
“Therefore encourage one another with these words.”
