One of the most influential artists of the early 20th century, Henri Matisse (1869 – 1954) created the Fauvism movement and was known for his brilliant color choices and exaggerated forms. Matisse was born in France and had an artistic career that spanned over six decades. His work included paintings, sculpture, and printmaking. Matisse was influenced by older academic painting methods, exposed to Post-Impressionist's work while in Paris, and inspired by Pointillist style painting. He created the Fauvism movement by emphasizing the emotional power of sinuous lines, strong brushwork, and vibrant colors. One of his final projects was designing stained-glass windows, murals, furnishings, and sacred vestments for the Chapel of the Rosary in Vence.
