In 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12, Paul writes the words:
11 To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, 12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Notice the inspired account of prayer for spiritual fruitfulness and the elements that prayer includes.
First, Paul prays that delivered people will faithfully serve God through carrying their resolves through the power of God. Second, Paul identifies the purpose. That is, the glorification of Jesus Christ in their midst because of His power at work in them. This passage captures a very important truth. God intends everything you do as a believer to be done through His power so that He gets all the glory!
There is no prayer for material prosperity. Paul doesn’t even mention various physical needs. His main concern, the concern God wanted recorded for us, centers on believers bringing glory to God through the power of God at work in their lives.
No higher calling exists for any local body of believers. Walking into ECBC you will not be confronted with a Disney-like atmosphere, charged with superficial “energy,” and whisking your children away to participate in a Christianized version of the latest entertainment. A local church, Scripturally defined, does not exist to entertain. We exist to help one another grow in grace so that, through faithful service wherever God places us, we can bring glory to Him with our lives. This calling is serious. The responsibility is daunting. And that is why we must give the valuable time of worship to fortifying our hearts and minds with the absolute truth about God found in the Bible.
The goal of ECBC is that by coming week after week, you will be fully equipped to glorify God by worshiping and serving Christ day in and day out!
